Whalley Bridge, Ribble Valley, Lancashire. ![]() Whalley Bridge which carries King Street over the River Calder is situated close to the southern end of Whalley Village, in the Ribble Valley. ![]() The photograph above shows approaching Whalley Bridge on King Street towards Whalley Village. ![]() The bridge has three arches, footpaths on both sides of the road and also has two half round pedestrian retreats as shown in the two photographs above. ![]() The bridge was subsequently re-pointed in 1908 and had major alterations made in 1917, at which time it was widened on both sides. ![]() The wedge shaped cutwaters were replaced with rounded ones, and the south-west retaining wall was also rebuilt. ![]() Travelling southwards over the bridge on King Street away from Whalley Village. ![]() There are some lovely views of Whalley Viaduct from Whalley Village and King Street, the photograph above shows the viaduct standing on the bridge, with the River Calder in the foreground.
