Ribchester Village, The Ribble Valley, Lancashire.

The Ribchester Arms

Ribchester is a village and civil parish within the Ribble Valley district of Lancashire, England. It lies on the banks of the River Ribble, six miles (10 km) northwest of Blackburn and twelve miles (19 km) east of Preston.

The village has a long history of Bronze Age beginnings. It is well known as a significant Roman site being the location of a Roman cavalry fort called Bremetennacum.

The New Ribchester Hotel

Close to the Ribchester Arms on the main B6245 road is the New Ribchester Hotel. This building doesn’t seem to be used as a Hotel anymore unlike the Ribchester Arms which is extremely busy at weekends and bank holidays.

Ribchester Roman Bath House

The bath-house at Ribchester (known to the Romans as Bremetennacum) was built in about AD 100. It continued in use for about 200 years.

The Rectory

St Wifred’s Church Rectory, Ribchester is situated at the southern end of Church Street next to Ribchester Museum.

Ribchester Museum

Ribchester Roman Museum sits at the southern end of Church Street, near the northern banks of the River Ribble, adjacent to St Wilfrid’s Church.

Founded in 1915 by Margaret Greenall, a member of Warrington’s Greenall’s brewing family, it is registered charity number 510490 with the UK Charity Commission.

Ribchester Village Hall

Ribchester Village Hall is situated in Church Street, between St Wilfrid’s Church and Ribchester Roman Museum near the northern banks of the River Ribble.

St Wilfrid’s Church Ribchester

St Wilfrid’s Church is an Anglican church in the village of Ribchester in Lancashire, England that is situated close to the site of a Roman fort.

It is an active parish church in the Diocese of Blackburn. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary School

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary School is situated on church street close to St Wilfrid’s Church and the north banks of the River Ribble.

The school was built in 1859 and has been expanded over the years to serve the residents of the village and the surrounding area.
